An increasingly popular day trip from Kraków is to make the journey to Zakopane to luxuriate in the thermal baths. There are agencies that offer these trips, and will include transfers for some pretty eye watering costs.

If you want to make the journey to Zakopane for this under your own steam (pardon the pun), it is really is quite straightforward to do.
Firstly, you will need to organise your own public transport. There are various options that this link will help you with
Secondly, when you get to Zakopane there are a quite few options of thermal baths and pools to visit.

Chocholow Thermal Baths

One of the hottest spots in Zakopane is the Chocholow Thermal Baths (Termy Chocholowskie). Just a short 20-minute minibus journey from the main station, this place is massive, boasting mountain vistas and holding the title for Poland's largest thermal complex. Dive into 30 pools, indoor and outdoor, zip down slides, ride the river rapids, catch some waves, lounge on the beach, pamper yourself in the spa zone with luxury baths, massages, and beauty treatments, hit the sports centre, and more! Warning: these baths are a top pick, so brace yourself for crowds, especially on weekends and school breaks.

To get there jump in a taxi or catch one of the frequent minibuses from the bus station.

Bukonwina Thermal Baths are located in the highlander village of Bukowina Tatrzanska only 15 km from Zakopane on the way to Bialka Tatrzanska and Slovakia. Goracy Potok

Goracy Potok thermal pools, which literally translate as hot stream, are located in Szaflary, which is just off the main road into Zakopane from Nowy Targ. It is a nice smaller scale complex consisting of 21 small outdoor pools filled with thermal water at 34 - 40 ° C, 3 saunas, mud baths, SPA treatments, 3 slides, a rope park and a " Beef Master Steak House". In addition, for kids there is a paddling pool with a huge balloon "Wet Bubble" and "Water Kindergarten" - which is basically a water playground for children. The surrounding pine trees give this complex a rural feel, and it is all much less manic and more family friendly than some of the other thermal baths in the area.

Getting there is easy. If travelling on the main public transport coaches from either Zakopane to Kraków, or Kraków to Zakopane, ask the driver when you get on to let you off at the Banska Nizna stop. Please note though that Flixbus won't do this. Note, Goracy Potok thermal baths are NOT the ones you can see from the main Zakopane road (these are Termy Szaflary).

Opening hours -
Monday to Friday 11am to 10pm.
Saturday/Sunday 9am to 10pm.

34-424 Szaflary, Os. Nowe 45

Termy Szaflary

The small intimate Termy Szaflary baths are found in the small village of Szaflary, just off the main road from Nowy Targ to Zakopane. You will easily see them on the left hand side of the road with the steam rising from them very visible in the winter. The complex consists of 4 thermal pools (2 indoor and 2 outdoor) filled with local geothermal water at a temperature of 30 - 38°C, 5 saunas, slides and mini-pools for kids. There is also an Italian Restaurant (Restauracja Włoska).

Once again getting there is easy. If travelling on the main public transport coaches from either Zakopane to Kraków, or Kraków to Zakopane, ask the driver when you get on to let you off at the Banska Nizna stop. Please note though that Flixbus won't do this.

Opening hours -
Mon - Thu: 10am - 9pm
Friday: 10am - 10pm

Terma Bania

Terma Bania is Poland's most modern, impressive and extensive facility of this kind. It is very conveniently located right next to the largest ski complex in the country, Kotelnica Bialczanska. The facility is divided into different zones designed to cater to the different preferences of guests. Visitors can indulge in swimming pools, a play area with slides, a relaxation zone with pools containing thermal water of different temperatures, including very hot pools and a sauna zone. The complex boasts 14 pool basins, over 300 meters of water slides in total, geysers, water cannons, jacuzzis, artificial waves and much more. One of the best features is that guests can use a terrace with an outdoor garden that offers breathtaking panoramic views of the High Tatra mountains. It also features various drink bars and a restaurant.

You can actually get a direct bus from Kraków to Terma Bania by getting on buses bound for Białka Tatrzańska. Use this link to help you find out times and buy tickets. If travelling from Zakopone, there are minibuses and service coaches that leave from the main bus station to Białka Tatrzańska.

Kapielisko Szymoszkowa

This last suggestion is actually just an outdoor swimming pool at Polana Szymoszkowa. This is Zakopane's one and only alfresco aquatic paradise, which is only open in the summer months and is fuelled by geothermal water at a temperature of around 30 degrees. It also boasts slides, a beach volleyball court, sunbeds and a pub. Since this area has a couple of ski runs in the winter, there is also a chairlift next to the pool which can hoist you up onto Gubalowka Ridge. Plus, the cherry on top? A stunning panoramic view from its elevated position of Tatra Mountains and Zakopane itself. Dive in for a splashing good time!

Getting there from the train or bus station either involves using a taxi - which is doable as it isn't actually that far from the centre of Zakopane - or catch one of the local minibuses.

Check the website in season for the opening hours.
